The International Federation for Home Economics – United States (IFHE-US) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Nina Roofe as its new president. Dr. Roofe brings decades of expertise in family and consumer sciences and higher education, combined with a passion for empowering individuals and families.
Dr. Roofe succeeds Dr. Sue Buck in this role and will lead IFHE-US in its mission to coordinate and support U.S. members of the global International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE). As president, Dr. Roofe will focus on strengthening the organization’s educational programs, fostering international collaboration, and advocating for policies that support home economics education and practice. In her first statement as president, Dr. Roofe shared:
“I am honored to serve the International Federation of Home Economics as the US President. The work we do to connect trusted research and education to empower individuals and families to make informed decisions regarding their available resources has been a consistent thread throughout my career. I look forward to collaborating with home economics professionals around the world to support IFHE’s current initiatives, the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, and professional development opportunities for members.”
Dr. Nina Roofe is the Assistant Vice President for Family and Consumer Sciences with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. She oversees education, training, food safety, nutrition, health management, wellness, family life, financial management, and volunteer development programs. She is nationally credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, as a Certified Nutrition & Wellness Educator by the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, and is licensed by the Arkansas Dietetics Licensing Board.
Nationally, Dr. Roofe serves as the Speaker of the House of Delegates, the governing body for the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics. She supports leadership development and mentoring programs including the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences Leadership Academy and the Council of Administrators in Family & Consumer Sciences Emerging Leaders Program. She has served on and chaired the Academy’s Ethics Committee, is a member of the Nutrition and Dietetics Educators and Preceptors Organization, the Council of Administrators in Family and Consumer Sciences (President 2022-2023), and is a former board member and site reviewer for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. She holds a B. S. in dietetics from the University of Central Arkansas, completed the dietetic internship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, an M. S. in Corporate Health Promotion from the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville, and a Ph.D. in Family & Consumer Sciences Education from Iowa State University. Before joining Extension, Dr. Roofe worked in clinical dietetics and higher education.
